I recently got Micro - Very Small Buildings by Ruth Slavid. It's a great book and is inspiring me to think about a small architectural job I'd like to do in the future. I thoroughly recommend it to someone who is a little scared by huge architectural jobs but would like to get into construction design on a small scale.

I like hip-hip, I like architecture but what I like more is hip-hop and architecture. Go Ice Cube!

City Cottage by Verstas Architects

To me this 'City Cottage' located in Helsinki is a beautiful example of micro architecture. I could quite happily live here (with the addition of a workshop). Well done Verstas Architects.

WikiHouse CNC Home

WikiHouse sounds like a great idea to me. It's idea is open source house construction based on CNC routed 18mm plywood. This is a method of construction that I'm pretty familiar with from my day job. I'd be interested to see how some large structures are built using this method and what the costs are compared to traditional methods. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

Sir Norman Foster's Dymaxion

Have you ever seen anything like this before? Sir Norman Foster has just completed the rebuild of Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion car, a revolutionary vehicle from 1933. Foster has apparently been fascinated with the Dymaxion since he worked for Fuller during the seventies. More information on the project can be found here.

The Land Of Giants

The Land of Giants by Choi + Shine architects are amazingly impressive. All built from the same generic components they make for a stunning and epic addition to their surrounding environment. I think it just goes to show that if we look at what is around us with new and creative eyes then we can start to make things that people appreciate and don't just take for granted. Link

Comvert’s Bastard Bowl

Develop 3D have written a really interesting article about the design and construction of an indoor skate bowl above the design offices, warehousing, and flagship store for Comvert in Italy. Link

The Lego House

The Lego House is the latest toy challenge that James May has undertaken as part of his BBC series James May's Toy Stories. Other projects included the world's first plasticine garden, which won the people's choice award at the Chelsea Flower Show, and the world's largest model plane. The show also created a Scalextric version of the Brooklands 2.75-mile racetrack in Weybridge.

The Cordell House

Katie Nichols and John Walker have focused their careers on creating affordable, sustainable, homes. To achieve that goal, the duo tapped into an inexhaustible resource in the port city of Houston, Texas – shipping containers. In a partnership with architect Christopher Robertson, Nichols and Walker created the Cordell House. Link

Final Wooden House

350mm square profile cedar is piled endlessly to create Sou Fujimoto Architects 'Final Wooden House'. The wooden square bungalow uses the wood to not only to create the structure but also the walls, ceiling, flooring, insulation, furniture, stairs and window frames. Link
